Artist Statement
Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill was a British politician at the forefront of the political scene for almost fifty years holding many political and cabinet positions.  A noted statesman and orator, Churchill was also an officer in the British Army, a historian, a writer and an artist.   Known chiefly for his leadership of the United Kingdom during World War II, he is widely regarded as one of the great wartime leaders taking his country from the brink of defeat to victory.  Churchill was noted for his speeches, which were great inspirations to the British people and to the Allied forces.  To date, he is the only British Prime Minister to have received the Nobel Prize in Literature, and the second person to be recognized as an Honorary Citizen of the United States and the first to receive that honor while still alive.  In 2002, a BBC poll of the "100 Greatest Britons", proclaimed him "The Greatest of Them All".  Churchill was also rated as one of the most influential leaders in history by Time magazine.
